Shade was visiting her step father, Hatori. She had had a bad cough for a while now, she had told Tadao it was nothing but she was actually worried about it. She covered her mouth with her elbow and coughed, rather gross sounding. She grimaced, blood was splattered on the inside of her arm. She pulled a tissue out of her pocket, something that she had gotten used to carrying around, and she wipped it away. She wadded it up on her hand, glaring down. She opened the door, not bothering to knock. "Hatori?" She called, her voice sounding rough. She coughed again, this time into the tissue incase there was more blood. "You here?"
((I tired. >.<))

Hatori had been working on paper work in his office. Upon hearing Shade enter, he went into the main room of his house. He could smell the blood she'd coughed up.
"Yes, Shade? What's wrong?" He questioned, sounding concerned.

"I've had a cough." Shade told him, her voice still rough. "For a really long time." She said.

Hatori's brow furrowed. "I smelled blood, Shade." He set a hand on her shoulder and guided her to his office. He had her sit on the bed, and he took a seat next to her. He looked like a worried father, which he was.

Shade looked down, looking like a kid who was caught in a lie. "I've been coughing up blood, too." She murmured.

"Any other symptoms at all?" Hatori asked her.

"Yeah, my throat hurts." Shade said a bit sarcasticly. "But I think it's just a really bad cough." She said to him.

Hatori shook his head. "I'm running some tests, Shade."
He started a few tests, and got the results. His eyes went wide and he sat on the bed. His hand was shaking just slightly. He looked over at Shade, and he breathed, "Lung cancer..."
((xP You'd think I'd get more feeling into that.))

((It's Small Cell Lung Cancer. ^^ XD))
Shade blinked, at first it didn't register. "I have cancer?" She asked weakly. She couldn't believe it. "W-what kind of lung cancer?" She asked, looking infront of her, not ant anything or anybody.

"Small Cell Lung Cancer," Hatori said. Why did this have to happen to Shade? Why his daughter? Of all the people it could have affected, why her?
Wait... he kne why she'd gotten it. She spent a lot of time around his office, and before he was a vampire, he was constantly smoking cigarettes. Sometimes he still did. And he knew that Tadao didn't smoke, and as far as he knew, nobody else Shade hung around smoked. And Shade certainly didn't.
Great, this was all his fault. He held his face in his hands.

"Hatori?" Shade tugged on his sleve. "Hatori, how did get cancer?" She whimper, tugging on his sleve again.

"The most likely cause is from being around me so much, since I smoke," Hatori replied guilitily. "I'm sorry, Shade. I'm sorry. This is all my fault."
She could die because of him.

"No, Hatori, it isn't your fault." Shade told him sternly. "It's not like you meant to or anything..." Shade said. She knew that when she got home though, she was looking up Small Cell Lung Cancer...

"I knew that the smoke could hurt you. I knew it wasn't good to breathe it in. But I smoked anyway and I did this to you," Hatori sighed. His face was no longer hidden by his hands. He was rubbing his temples as if trying to think. Had he caught it early enough? If he had, there was a better chance that she'd live.
((I don't know very much about cancer. I just know that when you find out early enough, the person has a better chance at living. XDDDDDD))

((XDD Small Cell Lung cancer is actually very deadly from what I've read, like, the survival rate is 5%...)) "Hatori, don't blame yourself." Shade said. "You just make it worse. Also, your probably not the only people I hung out with that smoked. Mom smoked when I was younger, and I was also out with my gang alot and they smoked too. ALl of those probably contributed." Shade pointed out to him. ((Stuffs about small ceel lung cancer [Also known as oat cell lung cancer] www.emedicinehealth.com/small-cell_lung_cancer/article_em.htm I'm looking at this site about it right now. ^^))

Hatori sighed. Was she aware how dangerous this was? But, he tried to reassure himself. Shade's strong. She'll live through this. She will.

"I'm just... trying to relax so I can figure this out," Hatori replied. Well, that was partly the truth...

"Tell me more about it." Shade said to him. She swallowed and then asked, "What's the surivival rate?"

Why did she have to ask him that?
"The survival rate is five percent," Hatori replied in a very quiet voice. She'd have to strain her ears to hear him.
