Shade allowed Tadao to put his arm around her and she walked upstairs. She peeked her head into Lee's room.
"Lee... ? I'm ready to talk to you." She said.

Lee looked up. He'd been playing with race cars in his bedroom.
"So... uh... wassamatter?" He questioned his mother and 'father'.
Tadao went into the bedroom with Shade.

Shade walked in and sat down. She didn't know how to explain this to a three year old. If she told him she had Small Cell Lung Cancer, he'd look at her and go, 'huh?'.
"Lee... I'm really sick." She told him gently. "And I'm probably going to be sick for a long time." She said. Of course, she wasn't go to tell her son that she would probably die.

Lee frowned. "You're sick? How long are you going to be sick?" He questioned. He understood it would be for a long time, but how long?

Lee's lip trembled a bit. Though he was only three, he understood well enough that when somebody didn't get better, they got worse and died.
"Wh... what?" He asked, staring at his mother with big green eyes.

"But... but you're Mommy," Lee said. "S-so you'll be okay. You're gonna be okay," he said, not wanting to believe that his mother could die.

Tadao raised his eyebrows at her, giving a helpless expression, then tried.
"Lee, something bad might happen. I think Mommy will be okay too, but something bad still might happen, okay?"
Lee's lip was trembling again and he nodded at his adopted father.

Lee nodded eagerly. "Skyflying!" He suddenly shouted.
"I think you mean skydiving, Lee," Tadao said with a slight smirk.
"Yeah! Skydiving! Let's go skydiving!"
"Ahh... I don't think that's a good idea," Tadao mumbled, scratching the back of his neck.
