"I noticed. In Japan... the sand is whiter, without rocks," Akito replied. Soon they were on the beach.
"Take off your shoes, then we can go into the ocean--"
"In my clothes?" Akito questioned.
"It's fine, Aki," Alice replied. Akito removed her shoes. She liked the beach. The sand between her toes seemed nice.

Devon quickly removed his shoes and followed the two. "Don't keep her in the cold water too long, Alice, I don't want Akito to get sick during her vacation." Devon told Alice.

Alice nodded. "Don't worry. It won't be for long," she promised. "But Akito needs to experience it." She pulled Akito in the water. "Careful, don't slip." Akito sighed. The water was gradually growing deeper and deeper, soon it was up to Akito's waist. It was fairly nice.

Devon followed them in. He smiled down at Akito. "Enjoying yourself?" He asked her.

"It's cold. But I like it more than the beach in Japan," Akito replied. She let go of Alice. The waves had been strong and she'd been holding onto the girl. Now she was leaning on Devon. She shivered a bit.
((It's fun to wade in the ocean.))

Devon looked down. "Are you cold? Do you want to go back?" He asked instantly.

"I'm fine," Akito replied simply, going further. "It really feels nice." She smiled slightly. She nearly fell forward, but gripped Devon's arm tightly.

Devon chuckled for the umptenth time that day. "Watch yourself." He told her gently.

"I've never walked into the ocean," Akito said to him. "My first visit to the oean was only a couple years ago," she admitted.
Alice looked over at Akito, seeming shocked.

"Why haven't you gone before?" Devon asked couriously.

"When I was a child, Father was too ill to take me. And then the maids would fuss over me like mother hens. They didn't want me anywhere near an ocean. And then... I'd always be sickly, so I couldn't go. The only reason I went is because somehow, I was stupid enough to let Shigure talk me into going. I think it was to keep an eye on the juunishi... I don't know." Akito shrugged, and leaned on Devon again.

Devon nodded and rubbed her back gently. "I see." He told her. "You must have been lonely as a child." He murmured.

"Sometimes," Akito admitted. "But my first five years, I still got to spend time with Father. And then... well, Shigure was kinder back then, so he sometimes stayed behind when the family went on vacation." There was a slight smile on her face. Obviously, the memories of her father, and even Shigure, were pleasant.

Devon slightly grimaced at Shigure's name. "What heppened to Shigure to make him stop likeing you?" He asked.

"How did he stop liking me? Well, he told me... that the reason he... did what he did with Ren is because I did that with Kureno... I can do whatever I want with my juunishi, though." This last part was said guardedly, angrily. "But I sent him away, and he went willingly. But... I don't think he really stopped liking me until he got Crystal. Before that, he constantly visited. Sometimes it was to degrade me. To make me feel... bad, I guess, other times just to speak, using twisted words." Akito sighed, and then, in a quieter voice, she said, "You're very lucky that you don't know the real him."

Devon nodded, listening. "I understand, I think." He murmured. "But the other Sohma's that are cursed aren't yours, Akito, they're people too." He said gently.

"Yes, they are people, but I am their 'god'. I am better than them, I am special. I am the one who was born to be loved. Father told me so," Akito responded.
She'd never admit that she despised her position in the family. Really, being above the circle of people, instead of among it, was no better than being the outcast. It was no better than being left behind.

"But they were born to be loved too, every body was born to be loved." Devon tried to explain.

"And they are loved," Akito nearly snapped back. "They need to love me. All of them do. Our world... it's too hard for any outsider to comprehend. Even one as wise as you," she told him, calmed again.

"But you won't allow them to love anybody but you." Devon told Akito.
