Kira nodded. "Yeah... I should have gone to pick Shade up." She said with a slight yawn. Maybe if she would have gone, this whole mess would have been avoided.
A doctor stepped out, looking grim. Kira looked up at him, her face darkened with worry. The doctor sighed sadly. "I'm sorry to tell you this ma'am, bu you daughter has slipped into a coma." He said. Kira almost burst into tears. Her baby was in a coma. Her baby had the possibly of never waking up again.
While her tears watered up greatly and she held in a sob, she brought her hands to her face. "No, no no... no, not my baby. No..." She whimpered. If Shade died, that would be her last child. The doctor had left, leaving the distraught woman with her family.

Hatori had been half awake when the doctor came out, and he'd heard what the doctor'd said. He stood up, and walked over to Kira to comfort her.
A few tears were even dotting Tadao's and Hatori's eyes.
Tadao felt sort of numb, like the statement hadn't completely registered. He understood what was going on. He was sad, he felt the tears. But... he felt unfeeling, out of the surprise. But it was slowly sinking in, and he leaned against the wall as if he'd fall down if he didn't. "Shade..." he whispered quietly.

Kira leaned into Hatori. This couldn't be happening. She couldn't believe it. She wanted the doctor to be wrong. She cried, that was all that she could really do. Her child had the possibility of never waking up again. Her shoulders shook in her silent sobs. Why was this happening to Shade? She didn't deserve it. For once, she felt bitter inside. She wanted to yell and ask some higher power, if there was one, why this was happening to her daughter. She wasn't just sad, she was mad. She didn't understand why this was happening.
She looked over at the door of the room. Just past it was her daughter, in a coma.
She didn't understand why this was happening.

Tadao looked at his older brother. Hatori was helplessly allowing Kira to lean on him, trying to find some way he could offer a comforting gesture, though he couldn't embrace.
Tadao did that for Hatori. He pulled Kira close... To comfort her. Hatori looked at Tadao, a thankful look on his sleepy face. Tadao nodded.
Hatori rubbed Kira's back gently as Tadao hugged her.

Kira allowed Tadao to hug her, wrapping her arms around him. Her shoulders shook with silent sobs. "She going to be okay, right?" She almost whimpered. She wanted someone to tell her that Shade would be okay. That Shade would make it through.

Tadao wanted to hear the same thing. He figured that Hatori wouldn't answer, though. Hatori looked doubtful.
"She's... going to be... okay..." Tadao whispered.

Kira nodded. "Do you promise?" She asked, looking up at Tadao. The look on her face was heart breaking.
Lawliet now was standing in the doorway of the waiting room. Sort of looking out of place in a way. "So Kira, when were you gonna call?" He asked in his normal monotone voice.
Kira looked back; surprised to see her brother standing there. "L-lawliet!" Her eyes grew wide for a split second.
"Why so surprised? We just got news of the crash at the police station. Hatori." Lawliet replied blinking completely nonchalant. The only reason he had said Hatori's name was because the report had mentioned Hatori had been driving.

Hatori nodded. "Yes..." he murmered. "Lawliet, I'm sorry. I was exausted and didn't see the ice on the road. I should have had someone else pick her up from the park," he said.
Tadao hoped Kira didn't expect him to answer her question. He couldn't promise. What if he was wrong.
"Nii-san, should I call Kyo? He and Shade are close friends, and he should know..."
"Mm, I suppose you should. All of the kids are going to be getting up soon anyway, I'm sure..." Hatori murmered.
Tadao took out his cell phone and dialed the number.
The phone rang quite a few times, then somebody picked up. Thank God it wasn't Yuki. It would have been difficult to talk to a boy that was still probably dreaming as he answered.
"Yo. Whaddya want...?" Kyo asked in a drowsy voice.
"Hey, Kyo, it's me, Tadao."
"Whaddya want?" He repeated his question.
"Ummm.... Shade... she got into a crash... Hatori was driving her home, and he didn't see some ice and crashed."
"Well, is she okay?!" Kyo sounded fully awake now.
"Ahh.... she's... in a coma, Kyo..."
"What?!" After that was a long string of cuss words. And it'd been so loud that everyone in the room could hear. Then, "I'm coming. Be there in a few minutes." Then the boy hung up

"That was rather... Colorful language." Lawliet commented. He only regarded Hatori's reply with a nod. No use in getting angry over something that's already happened.
Kira just blinked a few times when Kyo began to scream into the phone. She sighed, looking just as tired as everyone else. Aside from Lawliet....
She sighed, before finally pulling away from Tadao and looking at the door to Shade's room. She hadn't gone in yet. She was half afraid to go in there. She closed her eyes, which were red from crying and slightly swollen.
Lawliet glanced at the room door before walking over to stand in front of Kira. "Want me to go in with you?" He asked., but then turned to Hatori. "What's her condition?" He asked since he didn't know yet.

Hatori cleared his throat, uncomfortable. "Coma..." he said quietly. "Badly injured." Well, fatally injured was more the statement that fit, but he couldn't worry Kira any more.

Kira didn't really respond to Lawliet for a while, but she finally did. "I don't care." She said bitterly, turning around so that she wasn't facing any of them. She glared at the wall. "She didn't deserve this. I don't understand." She said, her voice still bitter. "Why did this happen to her?! I don't understand! She didn't do anything! She didn't deserve this. It's not fair." She said, starting to ranting, but then stopped, and just glared at the wall.
Lawliet hesitated then put his hand on Kira's shoulder before walking around blocking her view of the wall. He embraced her in a hug before speaking. "You can rant all you want." He said simply. Lawliet wished he could have been around more when he was growing up. It almost seemed like she felt she had to carry the whole burden of her household and family.
Kira looked up at her younger brother. She couldn't say anything, she didn't know what to say. "Thank you." She finally said softly to him.

Hatori sighed and watched.
Kyo stormed in after a few more minutes of silence.
"Okay, Hatori, how the he** did you get into a wreck?!" He demanded.
"I was tired, and I didn't see the ice on the road," Hatori replied. "The car slid, spun, and hit a tree."
"D**n! You should have sent so--"
"I think we've all already established that I should have had somebody else pick her up, Kyo," Hatori interrupted.

Kira sighed and faced the people again. "It was an accident. It wasn't anyone's fault." She sighed, and put her head in her head in her hands. She had a terrible headache. She gazed back at the door, then walked in.
Shade was lying still on the bed. Half of her face looking rather... messed up... from all the stitches and the scratches. Also the gashes on her arms and legs, they were mainly covered up but at least some of her flesh was still there. Her right arm was in a cast because it was broken. Her ribs were also broken, but you couldn't really tell.
Lawliet followed silently behind Kira stopping in the doorway. He tensed slightly seeing Shade in such bad shape. Not to mention it brought back other bad memories. He was glad that he hadn't gotten angry with Hatori. Considering what Kira had said earlier. Then again with her it's never anyone's fault.

Kyo struggled not to gawk when he looked into the room. He felt his temper rising, but somehow shoved it down for once. He couldn't believe this. Oh, G*d, what if Shade didn't make it?

Lawliet turned to look at Kyo. "Do you need a hug to Kyo?" He asked in a completely normal and serious voice.
Kira sighed and went to go sit by her daughter, struggling not to cry. "Shade..." She murmured, taking her daughter's hand and holding it tightly.

Kyo stiffened and glared at Lawliet in irritation. "What the he**?!" He exclaimed.

"Kyo. You shouldn't be yelling in a hospital. Some people are sleeping." Lawliet said turning back to Shade and Kira.
((Couldn't resist throwing that stuff in. It kinda lightens the mood a bit. XD))

((XD))
Kira sighed at her brother who was probably being irritating just to be irritating. She ignored the bickering two, though.
