"That's sad." She said. "Who wouldn't want to take care of an adorable child?" She asked herself.
She had a sudden thought.
"Not to pry or anything, but how's you end up here?" She asked.

Miki's face wasn't as happy. But she didn't look too sad. "Well... long story short: Mom was an alcoholic, and Dad died. Mom wasn't too mean or anything. She didn't abuse me. Nothing like that. But I didn't think I should be living alone with an alcoholic mom who wasn't good at taking care of kids. So I left. I... well I still go see her now and then, make sure she's doing okay," She said, smiling again. "I'm not as bad off as a lot of the kids here. I'm actually probably one of the luckier ones. Not too many emotional scars from when I was younger or anything ilke that. How did you end up here?"

Her face turned blank for a moment, the she recalled the events of her life.
"My dad and my two older brothers died in a car accident when I was younger. I always suspected that my unlce tamped with the car, because only two of the bodies where found. My oldest brother wasn't found. Then, my mother fell ill, and my uncle pleaded to live with us. My mother is too kind to turn anyone in need away, so she said he could stay." She pasued for a moment.
"And that's when he started beating me while my mother was sleeping." she said. "That was ten years ago, and he still lives with us. But now I'm here." She said on a lighter note.

"That's so sad, Hoshi!" Miki said. "There have been a few other kids that have come here that had had problems like that with family members. Sometimes they use different names so if their family members come and ask about them, they can't be found. Did you use a different a different name, Hoshi? If Hoshi's not your real name, I won't tell anybody your real name, promise," She said. "Not trying to pry, I'm just curious!" She added, slightly embarrassed.

"You have to promise not to laugh..." She said. She did have a very strange name, she liked it, it made her diffirent, but she wasn't sure if others liked it.
"My name is Shade." She said.

She smiled at Miki. "Thanks" She said.
She placed her hand on the bed she was sitting on. The cotton felt soft on her skin. She just first notticed that everything in this room had a clean smell to it. Like, a cottony smell, or musk, or fanric refreshener. It was hard to pinpoint the exact smell.
She llooked back up at Miki after her green eyes had drifted down to the blanket in her thought. The sweet scent still wsas drifting around though.
Shade really liked that smell.

Miki smiled back at Shade. "Hey, maybe tomorrow we can go and shop for a bit... and while we're at it maybe buy some hair dye or something. That would make it harder for your uncle to find you..." She said, sitting down next to Shade.

She grinned. "That's a good idea!" She said, then thought of what color to dye her hair. It was already raven black, so she'd have to bleach it if she wanted to get anything very light.
"Do you want me to dye your hair, too?" She asked.

"Nah," Miki shook her head. "I'd rather keep my hair brown. What color do you want your hair to be? Maybe I can go out and get the dye now, we can color your hair, then tomorrow we can hang out without you worrying about anything for a bit," She suggested.

"THat's be a good idea." She said, then went up to her backpack that she had brought with her. She unzipped on of the smaller, back pockets and pulled out some money.

"Anyway, what color do you want? Maybe we could have the same. That way if he saw us, he'd think that we were just sisters or something," Miki suggested. "Maybe I'll get you some make up too, unless, that is, you have some." She smiled, taking some of the money, folding it up and putting it in her pocket.

"i think brown highlight would definatly be cool." Smiled Shade. "That way, would look more alike." She said. Then, blushing a little bit, she added.
"You do look like one of my older brothers did once. You both had the same hair and eye color. He was the only one of my sibblings and cousins without green eyes." She said.
"And you don't have to worry about paying for any of it. I have plenty of money." She said.

"Okay. And that's really cool that I look like one of your brothers. So I'll be back with brown dye, 'kay?" Miki said, standing up. She had some of Shade's money sitting in her pocket.

"Can I come with you?" She asked, Standing up at well. She winced slightly when she accidently hit her head on the bunkbeds. She rubbed her head slightly, then smoothed back down her black hair and then carefully stood up completely.

Miki laughed a little. "Sure. You okay? I kept doing that when I first came here. You're lucky I'm on the bottom bunk, huh? Else you'd have a big goose-egg on your head!"

"Let's go!" Miki said happily. She walked out the door. The two walked into the living room. To boys, probably about eight, were fighting. Miki rolled her eyes. Those two were always fighting. "Hold on a sec, Shade," She said, walking over to the young boys. She got between them, pushing them away from eachother. "You two should stop. Do you want time outs?" She asked. They both shook their heads. The looked almost exactly alike. Twins.
