Blood- family background or descent from an ancestor, especially when viewed as determining a person's character or appearance “Shade, darling, come here.” “I dun wanna, Mama. I dun wanna met her.” “Well I don’t want to be broke, we all can’t get what we want.” Kira tried to reason with the child, but it was absolutely infuriating. She had managed to get the girl in the nicest she could afford- which really wasn’t much; a pair of khakis that were too big on her and a blouse- and get her in the car, then drag her up to the gates of her sister’s freaking mansion. What the hell? If Ren was so rich, why didn’t she help out her family once in a while? Her Kira was, living in the ghetto with a house that was falling apart and barely having enough money to feed the kids. What a b*tch. I dun care if she’s living the good life now, she better not forget that she was born a street rat, she’s still one of us no matter how much she wants to deny it. Kira thought bitterly, her forehead wrinkling up as she was thinking. “… Whas wrong, Mama?” He daughter asked as she placed her tiny little hand in her mother’s and Kira smiled down at her. “Nothin’ sweet heart. Now we just have to wait for your Auntie Ren to open the gates so we can actually go in.” Kira grimaced at the last part. Seriously, they had rung that fancy little buzzer thingy, this place was like a gated community and it was freaking annoying. Plus it was rude to keep people waiting. Dispite not wanting to visit her sister, she also wanted inside because she was very hung over and the light HURT LIKE CRAP. IT FELT LIKE HER EYEBALLS WERE GOING TO SIZZLE AND FALL OUT OF HER HEAD. Shade whined and leaned against her mother, signaling that she was tired of standing. Kira sighed and scooped up her daughter, placing her strategically on her hip as she waited for the iron gates to open and she groped around with her other hand in her purse for a pair of freaking sunglasses before her eyes started bleeding. ((Ugghh…))

It was not Ren who came to open the gates, but a young servant. She rushed up the path and, unlocking the gates, pulled them open, bowing to Kira respectfully. ”You are here to visit Ren-san?” she asked a little timidly. Before waiting for an answer, she added, ”Follow me, I’ll take you to her room.” The small woman skittered ahead, then, not glancing over her shoulder to see if Kira followed.
Ren had received a call from her younger sister that she would be visiting. She hadn’t said why. Ren hardly knew Kira—she’d been about to move out by the time her child was born. It was true, Ren had been a ‘street rat’ of sorts, until she’d left to work at the Sohma house. Few people knew that about her. Currently, Ren was waiting in her wing of the building for Kira to show up. Akito, unfortunately, was in the same room. Neither of them wished to be near each other, but it couldn’t be helped right now.
Ten-year-old Akito sat on the far end of the room, as far away as possible from her mother. She watched the door expectantly, knowing that someone would be visiting today. She never knew that her mother had had a sister. The brief thought that the woman might have a child crossed her mind. It was a hope, and Akito quickly shoved that back. Ha! She’d given up on ‘hope’ a long time ago. The world was a place enveloped in black. There was no such thing as ‘hope’. That was a complete illusion.
Akito pulled herself from her reverie as she heard the door open, and looked toward the doorway, away from the spot in the wall she’d been staring at without really realizing it. There stood a woman, carrying a small child. Akito straightened her posture a bit, shifting so she was sitting on her legs, sort of like a kneeling position, though this wasn’t considered kneeling.
”You sure took your time,” Ren said, looking at Kira with irritation, standing up. Akito stayed where she was, though she watched Shade with some curiosity that she couldn’t stifle. ”So what was it you wanted, anyway?” Ren asked, crossing her arms over her chest. For once, she wasn’t wearing an incredibly revealing dress. Instead, she wore a formal kimono, decorated with a beautiful floral pattern. Secretly, Akito wished she had one like it.

((It'll be better then mine. >.< XD XP))
Kira placed her daughter on the ground, meeting Ren’s gaze with a slightly offended one of her own. She was out of her usual attire of pencil skirts, fishnet and blouses, and instead wore something a bit more respectable, the trousers she wore were of course still pinstripe and she still had a pair of heels on, but Kira wore a shirt that was nicely fitting and didn’t showed that much. Hey, Kira wasn’t the most respectable of women at this age. “Well if somebody woulda been over there to open that da-“ Kira corrected herself before she cursed in front of the children, well, Shade she didn’t care about, but Ren might not appreciate giving Akito a wider vocabulary. “I would have come sooner if I could.” Kira said with a sigh, finally taking off the glasses that shielded her currently-light-sensitive eyes from the sun’s ray of vengeance. Kira will never drink that much again. “Well, I didn’t want actually want anything, I was just out a’walking one day when I had a thought that I should go and visit my lovely sister.” Kira said with more extravagance the necessary, maybe she did it to mock Ren, who knows, she could have been doing it just because but it is something that she often does, and this were Shade would get it from in the future. “Do you have a problem with me being here?” She asked, also crossing her arms.
Shade from when she was placed down, but did not protest. The girl clung close to her mother for the first part of her mother’s little talk, before she took a few wary steps towards Ren, not liking the way this woman was, something about her frightened Shade to the marrow of her bones, they always said babies and young children could tell certain things about people. But other than that, Shade had a gift, not a particularly good one, but a gift all the same, she had known since the day she was born when everybody around her would be taken out of this world. Everybody but herself.
But that’s enough about that.
As Shade approached Ren, she offered a small smile up at the taller woman. “I’m Shade.”She told her softly, her voice was soft and high, much like a small brook giggling over a stream.

Akito smirked as Kira cut herself off in the middle of the word d. Ha! Did she think she hadn’t heard that word before? She wasn’t amused for long, and went back to watching Shade, who was now standing on the floor. Ah, now she was hesitantly approaching Ren, and Ren didn’t seem to notice. She was still watching Kira with an annoyed expression. Ren faked a smile. ”It’s very kind of you to want to see me—and it’s right for you to think of me as your lovely sister. After all, I’m the one who married the head of the Sohma family, aren’t I?” She chuckled a bit. ”Anyway, fine. You can stay, if you want. It’s no problem.” Of course, her expression and voice itself contradicted her statement.
Shade introduced herself to Ren, and Ren glared down in disgust, as if she couldn’t stand having the child near her. Akito shook her head, thinking, Stupid girl. ”Akito!” Ren said suddenly. Akito’s gaze snapped from Shade to Ren immediately. She looked surprised for a moment before Ren continued. ”Take Shade outside.” Surprise gone, Akito narrowed her eyes. ”Last time I checked, mother, I am in charge, not you. So don’t give me orders.” Despite saying this, Akito stood up and, almost as warily as Shade had, made her way in that direction. She would have ignored her mother completely, but the way her eyes flashed with anger frightened Akito a bit. So she grabbed at Shade’s wrist and walked over to the shoji door that led outside. After going through the doorway, she slammed the door closed as hard as she could. She glared at it when it bounced back open, and decided to leave it that way. Mother could shut it.
”What’s your mother thinking, coming here?” she asked Shade in irritation after they were further from the house. Akito leaned against a sakura tree, shaking her head as some petals fell into her hair.
[Oh, wow. This one is SAD. XP]

Kira smirked at her sister. “Really? You let our blood mix with these selfish pigs, you call that lovely?” Kira asked bitterly, placing her fists on her hips. Kira couldn’t help but smirk at the child’s retort, ah.. such a feisty youngling!- personally, she could see where she got it from, possibly herself. But did Ren really have to snap? Akito did nothing.
Shade followed when Akito tugged on her wrist, not saying anything and having a stunned expression on her face with her aunt’s reaction. She finally snapped out of this stupor when Akito spoke to her. “… I dunno. Mama doesn’t think much before she does stuff.” Shade told Akito. “Pwus I didn’t ask her…” Shade sat down, her legs crossing themselves into Indian style, looking up at the pale Akito. Woow… she was pale. Mama also told her that she looked like a Arab, and she would jokingly tease that if she got any darker during the summer months they would have to give her away to a family that matched her color, but she had never really seen a family member with such a pale color. Shade was momentarily envious but the child quickly got over herself. “Wet me see your arm… pwease.” Shade said- she had issues pronouncing her L’s incase, fair reader, you could not yet tell- holding out her dark, pudgy, little hand, she wished to compare her skin tone.
((Ugh... I tried, I really did...))

[blockqoute] “Really? You let our blood mix with these selfish pigs, you call that lovely?” Akito had caught Kira’s words and had felt herself stiffen a little, but surprisingly hadn’t said anything. Besides, it would sound like she were trying to defend her mother, and she didn’t want to sound like that. So she kept her mouth shut as she took the younger child outside.
Ren, of course, didn’t hold herself back. ”Some people in this family may be selfish.” At this she glanced at the doorway that Akito and Shade had disappeared through. ”But never Akira-san. Not to mention, as far as I’m concerned, I have nothing to do with you or anyone else in the family.”
”It was a really stupid decision for your mother to make, coming here.” Akito was looking the little girl before her up and down. Although she was probably quite a bit older, she wasn’t all that much taller than Shade. Almost as an afterthought, she added, ”I never knew Mother had any sisters.” “Wet me see your arm… pwease.” Frowning at Shade, Akito held out her arm as the girl asked, pulling up the sleeve of her boy’s kimono. Her skin was practically translucent, and you could see the blue of her veins running up her bony arm. Her sleeve slipped slightly off her shoulder, revealing how it looked more like a cruel jut. Sickness had made her terribly frail already. Akito pulled it back up. ”Why?” she asked Shade.

"You cannot simply disown us, you cannot ignore us, we will always be here!" Kira's voice rose, she crossed her arms across her chest. "You might be a pregnant dog, but I for one want my daughter to know her cousin." Retorted Kira, calming her voice. I need a smoke... The thoughts were so vauge in Kira's brain, she was more worried about her boiling temper and rising blood pressure at the moment. She was sure though, if forced into the same position with her boyfriend, Lee, she would react in the same way, and the sickly woman was volatile as it was.
"She has two." Shade said to Akito, lifting up two fingers to emphasis her point. "And a brothwer. But he's not here much, he's busy wif his job." Shade said, now taking Akito's arm in her own little pudgy hands- the girl still had some baby fat on her- and held Akito's arm to hers, compairing the colors. "You're lots whiter then I am." She commented. "I like it, my momma said that if I get any darker, she'd hafta give me away to a black family. I'm pwetty sure she's kiddin', though..." The child said, coming out more racists then she intended- though Kira probably knew that it sounded a little bad. Shade also pulled up her sleeve, and though her arm wasn't as skinny as Akito's there was bruising, and evidence that it had recently healed from being broken, along with yellow bruises underneath purple ones, not the prettiest sight in the world.
