Mary walked down the hall, looking for her father. She was reading the note on the back of the divorce papers she'd found in her parents' room over and over again.
Devon,
Please don't take this the wrong way. I love you more than you know. I had no other choice. I can't tell you my reasons for this, and I'm not sure if I'll get to see you or Mary anymore. But I'll try. You can take charge of the family if you want. If not, give the position to someone you think would be fit. Tell Mary I love her. I'll miss both of you.

Mary kept crying after reading, and her tears were falling on the paper. She didn't understand why her mother had to leave. She looked all over for her father, then finally found him out in the gardens.
"Daddy!" She said, running over to him and showing him the papers. "M... Mommy left!" She pointed at the note.

Devon looked over at Mary.
He gnelty took the papers from his daughter and read them.
His face was blank.
After kissing Kaiser, it was no surprise.
"She wasn't happy with me." He tried to explain to Akito. "But she still loves you, I promise." Devon said. He would probably be crying if he was human, but he was actually containing his emotions fairly well. He pulled Mary into a hug and held her there, kissing the top of his head.

"But... Mommy wrote that she loves you," Mary suggested, sniffling a bit as her father held her. "Mommy was happy with you, I think." She couldn't bring herself to think that her mother wouldn't be happy with him. Why wouldn't she? He was nice, and she knew that he loved Akito a lot. "She said she didn't have a choice, right...?" She sounded much too mature to be three years old, but she was. But when you were half vampire, this happened to you. She just sounded a little more like a three-year-old with how she talked because she seemed to have just a little bit more human in her than Renesmee had. She shook her head at Devon, being stubborn. "Mommy must've left for another reason. Right? 'Cause she loves you too much." She regarded him with big, stormy-ocean-like eyes. How could he think that her mother wasn't happy with him. She just couldn't understand that. She was still crying a bit, but she was somehow able to keep her voice level. It was pretty amazing, how quickly vampire children matured.

Devon wipped some of her tears away. "She left of her own free will. I couldn't stop her." He said to his daughter. He was beginging to wonder if Akito had just used him to put of her death- to make her a vampire.

Mary frowned. She wasn't going to believe that her mother had wanted to leave. She laid her head on her dad's chest, still crying a little. She wiped at the last of the tears furiously. She really had taken after Akito. She didn't like crying. And she had a temper. At least she wasn't violent.
"I'd bet Mommy'll come back," she told him, as if trying to reassure him. She already believed that.

Mary desperately wanted the subject to change. At least a little.
"Daddy, are you gonna run the fam'ly, or is someone else gonna?" She asked. She was in a bit of a shocked state now, not quite believing that Akito had actually left. Any minute now, her mother would come out and they'd all be talking and smiling and laughing... right? Maybe this was just a bad dream?

"Yes you arrrrrrrre!" Mary told him, sticking her tongue out at him. How she was able to act like this five seconds after she'd been sobbing, nobody knew. Maybe she just got sidetracked easily...
