The cool air tugged at Akito’s hair as she meandered around the very edges of the large Sohma garden, in the hilly area. It didn’t take long to get there, though it used to. Vampire speed was useful. So was vampire sight, so she could take in everything around her without having to slow down. Now, though, she walked slowly. One could hardly say anyone actually owned this area of the garden. It was actually outside the property, but nobody owned anything beyond this. Around her, the grass was long, though there were patches of dirt here and there. There were trees everywhere, and bushes that currently had no flowers dotted the hills. Anyone who liked nature would find this to be a beautiful spot, though it was even better mid-spring, when the weather was just right, and flowers were in bloom, adding more color to the green area.
It was then that an old memory that she hadn’t quite recalled until now flashed across her mind, playing in front of her eyes like an old, low-quality movie. One from very long ago, before she became a vampire, before she met Devon. Before she even knew about vampires or anything else mildly preternatural, aside from her family. A fond memory, that she had not been willing to recall for a long time. But now, it surged in uncontrollably. She couldn’t quite remember what they’d been saying to each other. But there she was, quite a bit younger than she was now, and Dante.
It hurt to think of him. He’d disappeared so long ago. He must be dead. It was impossible to think that he might be alive at all. After all—he hadn’t come back.
Thoughts of her half brother brought more memories. After Dante had left, someone else had showed up—Ace. She’d hated him at first, then he’d grown on her, and she’d started to get friendly with him. And then she’d found she loved him. Her heart ached at the thought of him, even now. She loved Devon more, and knew that he was the one for her, but Ace was someone that she could never get over, even now that her memories of him were hazy.
Akito slowed her pace, and soon stopped walking completely, before getting to her knees, and then lying in the grass, staring at the sky, mostly covered with pearl-gray clouds. The clouds rolling in were darker, threatening that there would be a storm.
Sighing quietly, Akito halfheartedly shoved the memories of Dante and Ace out of her mind. Thinking of them did her no good. She was sure they were both dead. They’d both left, and hadn’t come back. Devon had shown up some time later after Ace left, and she used him as a way to forget him. And to make Shigure jealous, of course. It hadn’t worked for either, but she had found the person she was meant to be with, she knew now.
Akito had never bothered to mention Ace to either Mary or Devon. Though, sometimes when Devon wasn’t around, Mary would ask her about people with red-streaked hair or blue-streaked hair. She knew, by now, that her daughter had dreams when she slept that showed her both past and future events, and even present events. Many were irrelevant. And many had to do with her own childhood, which bothered Akito. Though, it seemed that by now, Mary was okay with it. Though, she remembered back when the girl was little, and would wake up screaming sometimes. There were many times when she refused to speak of what she’d dreamt about. Akito sometimes wondered if her daughter dreamed about things that had happened to Dante and Ace, or were going to happen. It was enough to frighten Mary that much, she was sure. Even now, sometimes the girl would wake up, screeching terribly, always fearful. Akito would soothe her, though.
She sighed as she thought about this, and, sitting up, caught the scent of some unfamiliar people up ahead.
Of course, maybe they wouldn’t be as unfamiliar as their scents suggested. One scent reminded her of a campfire, while the other of the ocean. Mingling together, they created a distracting scent. Pushing herself to her feet, she went in the direction—keeping to the s, to see the owners of the scents, though she pushed away thoughts that it might be Dante or Ace.
[This epically fails. But replying to it should be easy enough, eh? Dante and Ace may notice some new scars. The reason she’s a vampire now is because she was shoved out a window while it was closed. Which means she got cut pretty deep. THEN her ribs cracked when she hit the ground and punctured her lungs. Fun. So, yeah, scars. And gold eyes. Just a pointless note. XD]
