Akito leaned against Devon as they sat on the couch in her living room. She was dozing, listening to his breathing, wondering if he was listening to her heart beat. A faint smile was on her face.
"I love you..." She whispered, kissing his cheek and pushing closer against him. She had a blanket wrapped around her so she wouldn't get cold.

"I love you too, Akito." He said, his arms wrapped around her.

There was a knock at the door and Akito became alert.
"Who is it?" She called, deepening her voice.
"It's Hatori."
"Oh," Akito relaxed, but pushed herself out of Devon's arms. "Come in."
Hatori stepped in. His face looked grave. "Um..." His voice held grief in it.
Akito wondered what was going on.
"I have some troubling news, Akito."
"What?" Akito demanded.
"Well I've done some studying, Akito... and I-I've found out that you..." His voice broke. "That you only have about two or three years left of your life."
Akito froze.

Devon froze too, then became angry. "You lie." He snarled.

Akito gripped at Devon's arm tightly. His being mad was one hundred times worse than her being mad.
Hatori's eyes were filled with grief. "I truly wish I were lying." He whispered.
A few months ago, before she had met Devon, this would have made Akito happier. The sooner the pain ended the better. But now she realized that this pain was worth it, as long as she had Devon. Her life was actually worth living. Now she only had a couple more years to live it out?

"You lie." Devon repeated. A growl came from his throat. He stood up, glaring dangerously at Hatori.

Hatori took a step back, genuine fear in his eyes. He said nothing.
Akito tightened her grip on Devon's arm. "Devon. Stop it." She whispered. Devon looked ready to kill Hatori on the spot and Akito didn't need the only doctor that could take care of her dead.

Devon pulled away from Akito. "You lie!" He snarled again. "She won't die! I won't let her!" His fist flew throught the air, for a spilt second it looked like he was going to hit Hatori, that was untill his fist made a hole in the wall right next to Hatori's head.

Hatori was pressed up against the wall.
"Devon!" Akito nearly shrieked. She hurled herself between the raging Devon and the cowering Hatori.
She started trying to push Devon backward a little, with no progress.
"Stop it, Devon! You're going to kill him..."

Devon pulled away from Hatori, listening to what Akito told him.
He knew Akito would die someday...but why so soon? He didn't want to her leave him.

Hatori figured it was time to leave. His face had returned to that same grave look that he'd had when he walked in. He stepped out, making sure the door was shut all the way.
Akito let tears run freely down her cheeks now and she threw her arms around Devon. She didn't care how cold it was.
"Two years." She muttered. "That's all we have left? Two short years?"

"Two or three. And who knows...maybe he's wrong. You can life longer then that..." He said.

"Hatori is rarely wrong, but... I really hope this is one of those rare times when he's completely off." Akito sighed and wiped her tears away. "I wonder how he came to the conclusion of two or three years?" She shivered involuntarily, though she wasn't sure if it was because she was cold or because of the news. She thought of the time limit again and tears started to flow again. "Hold me, Devon..." She whispered quietly.

Akito wiped her tears off onto his shirt. She pulled away suddenly.
"Devon, what should we do now? Just because we sort of know when my death is going to be, that doesn't mean I'll spend the rest of it just greiving. Let's do something that will get our minds off of the subject. We could go out to the forest and you can show me why you like running so much." Akito forced a small smile. You could tell she was still very upset by the news, but she desperately wanted hers and Devon's mind off the the subject.

Akito didn't change out of her robes this time. Nobody would see her anyway, and hopefully they wouldn't get caught on anything. She followed Devon.

Devon walked outside. It was fairly nice out. There was some clouds, though

Akito looked up. Hardly any clouds. She bit her lip. "Da**it. It's bright..." The sun was reflecting off of Devon, making his skin twinkle.

"It'll be fine as long as no one sees." He said.
