Akito knocked quietly on the door to the room at had once been hers. Of course, it's not like she was going to kick Devon out. Nor was she going to live with him while he was dating another girl. So she'd merely chosen to live in a different room for the time-being. But it wasn't like she didn't go and spend time with Devon, and even Kairi. She and Kairi really got along, actually. Akito often told the girl how lucky she was to have Devon. Of course, sometimes it got uncomfortable between the two women. But usually it was fine.
She walked into the room without permission. After all, she ran the Main House again. She didn't need permission. She smiled when she saw Devon and Kairi. It was hard to hide how she almost felt frightened, though. She didn't understand why she was scared, or upset. She'd been eavesdropping on the servants, and they'd said something about Ren being fatally ill. So, Akito didn't understand why she was scared. She shut the door behind her.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi, Akito-san," Kairi said.
Akito shook her head. "What did I say? Forget the -san. We're friends," she told the younger girl.
Kairi laughed. She didn't notice that something was wrong. She didn't know Akito well enough to read her eyes correctly.
Akito took a seat in a chair.

Devon looked up at Akito.
"What's wrong?" He asked her, keeping his gaze calm even though he was worried.

Akito shook her head. Kairi looked surprised. Something was wrong.
"It's... it's Ren, is all," she said.
"What did she do?" Kairi asked. She hated that woman. She was cruel, and thought that she could get away with whatever she wanted.
"Nothing. It's just... I was listening to the servants talking, and they were saying that Ren is fatally ill. I know that it could just be a rumor, and even if it isn't, I don't think I should be concerned, but I am. And believe it or not, I'm actually scared that she might die." The words were rushed, and she seemed close to tears. She figured it was because Ren was her only living parent, and she'd lost her father to illness too.

Devon nodded.
"Well, she's your mother, you feel some sort of connection to her." Devon said softly. "Do you know what she's ill with?"

Akito shook her head. She pulled her knees to her chest. She was trying to comfort herself.
"I have no idea. I'm afraid to ask Hatori, because..." she swallowed hard and laid her head on her knees in a way that made her long bangs cover her eyes almost completely.
"...I don't want it to be true."

"The problem isn't just going to go away." Devon told her. "Ignoring the fact that Ren is sick isn't going to make her better."

Akito sighed. She felt like such a coward.
"I know, I know..." she said quietly. "I just..." She shook her head. "G*d, I'm such a coward!"
Kairi wanted to comfort Akito, but had no idea how to. She stayed pretty quiet, trying to think.

"Would I even be able to get a word in?" Akito asked him almost sullenly. But when she looked up and in his eyes, she looked all the bit like that frightened little girl that she could still be at times.
Kairi sighed. "Akito, I'm sure that you'd be able to speak with her."
"You'd be surprised," Akito mumbled, looking down again.

Akito nodded. She knew that. But she was still scared. Because what if she failed? But HOW would she fail? What would she fail to do? She had no idea what she was afraid of... she just was.
Agh, she was so confused right now it was horrifying.
"Would it be too much for me to ask you to come with me if I go to see her?" Akito asked him. The question was sort of directed at both of them, though the person Akito really wanted to come with her if she were to visit Ren was Devon, which was obvious.
Not that Kairi's company wouldn't be welcomed. She'd actually love having the younger girl with her.

"Why don't we check with Hatori first...?" Kairi asked, standing as well. "You know, to make sure that she's actually sick. And make sure whether she's... like, at the hospital or at the Main House..." she suggested.
Akito shrugged. "I suppose that would be wise..." she mumbled.
((I figured they could skip the visit with Hatori, then head to the hospital or something. 'Cause then there can be a confrontation with House. LoL I've already gotten a sort of idea of what House would say...
House: You the psycho's kid?
Akito: Unfortunately, yes.
XDDD I was bored during the car ride home.))

Akito quietly entered the hospital and got a visitor's pass. She was thankful to have Devon with her. She was asked if she was family, and she simply nodded. They had said that only family could visit Ren when they learned Devon and Kairi were not related, but one icy look from the former goddess convinced them otherwise. Akito walked down a hall, scanning for her mother's name. Finally, she found it. Ren Sohma. She entered without knocking.
A doctor was sitting on a swivel chair beside Ren's bed. He didn't acknowledge the visitors at first, then looked over at them. He grabbed a wooden cane that was obviously his, and stood.
He looked first at Akito, then back at Ren, who was staring blankly at her daughter and the others. He looked at Akito once more.
"You're the psycho idiot's daughter?" The man guessed. Akito looked at his name tag. Dr. House. Hatori spoke about him sometimes. She was guessing House was looking to offend her.
Akito merely shrugged, then replied, "Unfortunately, yes."
House smirked wryly. "You don't care about your own mother? Wow, how horrible are you?"
"I never said that!" Akito snapped.
"Akito," Ren said suddenly. There was surprised recognition or something along those lines in Ren's voice... Akito wasn't quite sure, though.
House left the room, shutting the door.
"Mother," Akito acknowledged.
Then Ren smiled pleasantly and said, "I'm glad to see you."
Kairi looked at Devon, giving him a surprised look. Akito was shocked into silence. Did Ren MEAN that? Something was wrong, here. Very wrong.

Devon shrugged, unsure of what was going on. Rhea would understand better then him, he wasn't good with emotions.
So he just remained silent for the time-being.

"All of you, come sit," Ren said.
"Co... come sit...?" Akito asked, as if Ren were speaking a foreign language.'
"Yes, you, Devon and... Kiri?" She couldn't quite remember Kairi's name.
"Kairi," Kairi corrected her.
Akito blinked. "Mother, is something wrong?"
"No, not at all. I feel fine, I don't even know why I'm here." Ren smiled again, and Akito almost ran out of the room. This might even be more frightening than when she was a child and Ren would get mad and shake her and hit her... like Kaiser did.
Akito twitched uncomfortably, but grabbed two other chairs that were pushed against the immaculate white wall of the room. She sat in one of them, leaving the swivel chair and the other plain chair for Devon and Kairi, looking infinitely uncomfortable. She was expecting Ren to show her true colors any minute now.

"I'm feeling fine!" Ren replied, voice actually light. Akito almost flinched. This was too scary.
Kairi took a seat, feeling as uncomfortable as Akito felt.
"So, how are my daughter and son-in-law?" Ren questioned, looking from Akito to Devon. Akito winced.
"Devon and I were divorced, remember?" Akito asked.
"Oh, right. Must have slipped my mind."
"Mother, why are you acting os kind?" Akito finally asked incredulously after a silence.
"This is how I always act," Ren replied.
"No, it's not!" Akito almost snapped, rubbing her temples. This was all too... strange. Akito started to wonder if she should be glad that Ren was finally being kind.
"Akito, are you all right?" Ren asked.
"I don't know!" Akito replied, not looking. This was too difficult to register.

Devon tilted his head. Maybe the meds that they were giving her... ?
"I'm sorry if this question is a bit intrusive, but why ar eyou in here, Ren-san?" He asked the woman.
