Red. The agony of vampire venom pulsed through his veins, his body shaking and heaving, his heart stuttering and racing through its last beats. Each drop of posioned blood changed him, until finally, his heart faltered and suddenly lurched alive again. Black. The red behind his eyes began to fade away, until he was left in the black world of nothingness. No pain, no thoughts. No feelings at all. But he longed to move, to be alive again. For a moment, he got his wish. Alive. He was thrust into red again, but he was alive now. Maybe he had been alive the whole time. Perhaps the black was an illusion, a protective defense from the pain. Dead. And his heart seemed to stop again, and he was dead once more. Drifting betwen a human and a monster, he felt himself suspended in oblivion. Human. Being human was hard. The blood in his veins burned like fire, and his heart seemed to be unable to stop, racing along faithfully, even when he longed for it to die. Vampire. And being a vampire was easy. Cold, hard, nothing to fear. His only worry was going back to human, for his ees to change, his skin to warm, his blood to melt and rush through his veins again. Mortal. Of course it happened. He had a shot at being human, one more chance to screw up. But he couldn't. He felt his wil bend at this transformation. He had to escape, he had to leave the world of humans. Immortal. And finally, his heart sped up, painfully fast. And with a last, lurching beat, his heart seemed to break, failing to fufill its duties as it lay still. But he was dead now! No longer alive, his blood and skin ice cold, his eyes red, and his teeth sharp. And with his life went the pain, no longer alive.
He opened his bloodred eyes, seeing the world in new light. He could see each blade of grass sway against the sunlight, hear each heartbeat of the fieldmice, taste the clean air, feel the sunlight against his perfect skin, smell the breath of a gardner snake in the grass.
Every movment was heard, felt, or seen. Nothing escaped his inhuman senses, not the beat of a heart or the rush of wings. He gazed around in wonder, seeing colors his human brain had been unable to comprehend, hearing sounds that fell silent to his old ears. His hard, cool skin felt the lightest touch of dust, missed by his soft human skin, and the smell of air was as distinct as brownies baking in the old world. And he could taste the air as well, when his old tounge could not.
And with his new body was a promise. A promise to kill each and every man he had helped, and help his sister, even if he would not be able to be close to her. But there would be ways.

Mary had run away from the Main House for a while, just for fun. She wondered how much trouble she'd be in when she got back and giggled to herself. Yes, she was only three. But, like Renesmee and other vampire children, she was very mature for her age. She could scent a nearby vampire. A newborn. She grinned and sped up her impossible pace. A speed that even most adults couldn't match. For once, her mind wasn't on her mother, Akito, who had left the Main House a few weeks ago. She was even in a good mood. She stopped when she was a few feet away from the vampire.
"Hi!" She called, standing straight. She was very short, even for her age. She'd taken after her mother when it came to height.

Akkikos pulled himself to a standing position, his senses overwhelmed by the presence of another person. His throat was on fire, burning and flaming. Blood. He needed blood. But his mind quickly overtook the thirst. Its not a human. Juat a foolish vampire-child. There will be no blood.
He didn't speak for a moment, his red eyes scanning the area for some source of life, something that had red, sweet blood pulsing through its veins. Blood for him to-
"Hi!"
The voice startled him, and he looked down upon the child. "Hello...?" he said, his voice fading as his ears heard it. His voice had changed too, more smooth, more handsome.

Mary grinned. "You're a newborn vampire, huh?" She asked. "Daddy's a vampire. So is M... Mom." She seemed to falter a bit when she mentioned 'Mom'. It hurt to think about her mother. She liked his reaction to how she'd just suddenly shown up. She stretched her arms, letting out a tiny yawn. She hadn't been sleeping much because of the visions of the past and future that kept coming to her in her in her sleep. She looked down, then back up at him, tilting her head cutely. "I can teach you how to hunt if you like," she said.
Of course, she was ready to run if it came to that. She knew that newborn vampires could be dangerous. Mainly because of things she'd heard from her father. Her mother had never been a threat to her.

Akkikos opened his red eyes wider. "Vampire?" he said questioningly. He looked over the child, and suddenly felt a rush of blurry human memories come over him.
"It's too late!" He felt the cold stones of the prison against his back. "I can do things you wouldn't imagine." a girl with red eyes stared at him. "Kill me!"
With a gasp, it all came together. The girl was a vampire! She had bitten him, and he was one now. His ever-growing thirst was the result. Another phrase caught his attention. "H-hunt? You mean . . ." he trailed off.

"Hunt. Like, hunt animals," Mary explained. "It's bad to hunt people," she added. "And besides, it's fun to hunt animals. Because they run really fast and it's so much fun! We could race," she said. She usually ate human food, but it was loads of fun to hunt animals. She did it with Renesmee sometimes. Or with her father. She got to do it once with her mother.

Akkikos mulled this over for a long time. "Isn't animal blood different?" he said suddenly, knowing his throat thirsted for human blood. "It won't be as good." the man said simply. He looked around. "Where is this place? I don't remember being taken here."

"Countryside," Mary shrugged. "I dunno how you got here. I just wanted to play out here and found you," she explained.
"Oh, and, yeah, animal blood's different. Doesn't taste like human blood. I like mountain lions the best. Sometimes I get bear, but only the baby ones. Sometimes the big ones scare me," she admitted.
Not to mention how her parents were both fairly protective and didn't want her to end up getting mauled, though that was very unlikely.

Akkikos seemed to consider this possibility for a moment. Kill animals... well, he'd killed a person before, if he recalled. It couldn't be any harder. But then again, with such strength and cunning, why not kill a human? "What is the. . . purpose of killing an animal? If it is not the same, why kill one? Why not quickly take the life of a human, instead of chasing an animal?" he asked, trying to make it all add up.

"Because that's bad," Mary said. "Killing people's a sin. It's not good to kill people. Killing animals isn't bad. Plus it's funner, 'cause they're fast." She tried to make it sound like it was better killing animals than people. She didn't want him to hurt people, even if she didn't know him.
"Anyway, what's your name? I'm Mary Sohma."

Akkikos chuckled darkly to himself. To him, killing people was like a community service. He had done worse things. He looked at the little girl, wondering how she could tell him it was bad to kill people, but be joyful about killing animals. Absently, he replied "I'm Akkikos. It means evil." he said truthfully. "Its a fitting name." he said shamefully.

Mary tilted her head. "I don't think your evil," she told him. "I don't think the name fits. Mommy says I was named after the Virgin Mary," she explained. "I study kanji, and Mommy's name means 'crystal person,' 'autumn person,' or 'person who resents'. Mommy says grandma named her using the third meaning," she rambled. "Mommy's done lots of bad things. But she's nice now. She's still kinda scary when she's angry..."
She blushed a little when she realized she was rambling. She sometimes talked like a three-year old, just because it was fun, but she knew what rambling was, and she got embarrassed when she did.

"You only just met me." Akkikos replied darkly. His expression faded for a long moment, and he was only half-listening as the immortal child rambled on. He heard a rustling in the bushes, and he immeaditly dropped to the ground, a hunting posture curving his hands like claws.
His ears were alert for any sound. But in this case, it was mind over matter. The blood lust consumed his mind, and in half a second, his teeth were lodged in the throat of a rabbit, draining the life out of the small, innocent creature. But the small amount of animal blood did not satisfy him, so he spun around, looking for more.

Just for safety, even though she probably didn't smell that... edible, she took a few steps back when he attacked. She'd never attack a rabbit. That's one of the Zodiac animals.
"Rabbits are no good for hunting. Try bears or mountain lions," she suggested innocently. "Mountain lions are the best. 'Cause they eat meat."

Akkikos was completley oblivious t oher words, or anything else for that matter. He was focoused on a corn snake, and when that was drained of life and blood, he turned on a group of field mice, sucking out the lives of five.
His head spinning and his throat itching for more, he broke into a run, speeding through the trees and into the woods, where bigger, tastier, bloodier, slower prey lived. He snarled at a deer before he ended its peaceful life, and a young bear died with a loud roar of anguish.

Mary had followed behind. It was always exciting to watch others hunt. He was so messy! Blood was everywhere.
"Deer taste no good," she informed him, not sure if he was listening.

About twenty minutes later, he was crouched in a tree, licking his lips and looking around for anything else. He blinked, finding it strange that he didn't have to anymore. He finally relaxed and slouched on the branch, looking up at the sky.
"So . . . if that was good, human blood must be great." he commented. Maybe he would break into the jail and try some. If someone was on the list for a death sentance, they might as well be killed now, right?

Mary pursed her lips. "If you want human blood thant bad..." she thought for a second. "I could bring you some donated blood. Ha'ri has lots of that, just in case..." she offered.

Akkikos closed his bright red eyes, their intesity not lessened by the feast of animal blood. "Oh, humans need that more than criminals." he replied casually, brushing his dark hair from his eyes. "And besides, some poor little kid with lukemia might need it, and what kind of person would I be if he died?" he said, laughing. Compared to the things he'd done in the past, stealing blood from a sick child was like giving flowers to strangers.

"Ha'ri's only a doctor for the Sohma family. None of us have a history of anything like that. Hatori already says that it's very unlikely, and 'sides, he can always get more." Mary knew what she was talking about. "So, it'd be okay if you got some. 'Sides, it's better than sucking someone's blood and killing them," she added.
